Airport

Welcome to the highly competitive 8pm Airport Sleeping Spot Economy.

At first, I was trying to sleep in what I can only describe as a boat recliner, when I noticed someone packing up one of the couches nearby. I kept glancing between them and the couch like a stray cat hoping to be adopted.

Finally I asked, “Could I snag that when you head out?”

She grabbed her backpack and cheerfully went, “Go for it!”

Success.

Then, hours later, when I woke up and started packing to leave, another traveler asked if they could take my couch spot.

And even better, someone in the recliner asked them if they could take their old spot.

It was like airport shuffleboard, except instead of disks, everyone was exchanging sleeping locations.

Shuffle sleeping spot.

Also, airports at 3am are deeply strange.

Too quiet. Too bright. Half the people look asleep standing up, and the other half aren't even trying to look like they're staying awake.
